Love in Action

We’re going to put our money where our mouth is.

This Labor Day weekend, we’re donating close to $10,000 worth of school supplies to neighborhood teachers and classrooms. Our office is filling up with notebooks, crayons, pencils, disinfectant wipes, etc. We love our community and very much appreciate the important work our educators do, serving our children and shaping the next generation. And “let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (1 John 3:18).

You can be a part of this great day! We have literally thousands of items to sort and pack into bags for 130 teachers. Bring a friend and help us. Any teachers who come that Sunday will leave with a bag for their own classroom.

Here’s the plan:

Sunday, 9/2: We’ll meet at 11:00am for a very short service (about 1/2 hr) at 4862 Broadway (map).* We’ll pray for teachers and give them supplies, so invite any teachers you know along! Then we’ll all work together to sort and pack the supplies.

* This activity is not sponsored or endorsed by the New York City Department of Education or the City of New York.

Monday, 9/3: Have fun at our Labor Day Picnic!

Tuesday, 9/4: We’ll gather in the morning to load up vans and deliver the supplies to teachers during their first in-service day of this school year. Anyone who’s available is welcome to come help (contact us).

To make a contribution towards the cost of these supplies, see information about how to give to Everyday Church here: Give.

Too Relevant To Let It Be Boring

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Acts 2:42, NIV

Knowing the Bible is important, but only if it changes how we think and live. In Home Groups, we try to live these words together. We’re currently focusing on the mission of Everyday Church. This Sunday we’ll begin to consider the ways in which our Home Groups are More Than Family: Part 1. We each have a part to play in our mission… should you choose to accept it.

In Home Groups, we share a big meal and lots of laughs. Kids and adults both enjoy hands on, interactive experiences with the Bible. Scripture is way too relevant to let it be boring! To participate: Contact Us.

Labor Day Picnic

Rest from your labor and enjoy a picnic in the park with friends!

We’ll provide burgers/hotdogs, utensils & drinks. Please bring a side dish or desert to share. We’ll also have some games for kids!

Where: West end of Dyckman by the pier (past Payson Ave and Henry Hudson Parkway) past the baseball fields (map).

When: Monday, September 3rd at 12:30pm

So bring a side dish/desert, your blanket, a frisbee or football or whatever, and join us for a fun afternoon in the park with friends!

Your Mission: Include

We’re in the second week of our series Should You Choose To Accept It. This week we’re challenged to think about how we can include those around us in following Jesus. It’s all a part of our mission as a church: Leading people into life-changing relationships. Everyday life can be the adventure of a lifetime… should you choose to accept it. (Sunday, 8/19/12)

40 Days of Prayer: Days 33-27

As part of this series of messages and discussions called “Should You Choose To Accept It” we’re going to pray for the next 40 days, every day! Our mission depends on it.

We’re currently focusing on our mission through a series of messages and discussions called “Should You Choose To Accept It.” We never want to do anything in our own strength, though. So we’re going to pray! For the next 40 days, we are going to pray every day together.
