What’s Next? Find out this Sunday!

Over the Summer we diwhats-next-title-slidescovered how God wants to redefine our lives, we celebrated a family reunion, and we learned to pray. So many of you are asking (and rightly so!! –) what’s next? The answer to that very question is coming this Sunday, October 23, and you don’t want to miss it!

There will be some celebrating what God has been doing in and through ECC. Some remembering who we are and what he’s called us to. And some looking forward to what he has in store.

Service starts at 11 AM, but why not show up at 10:30 and get some extra time to hang out with your family? You know you want to! We hope to see you there, bright and early, and are excited for What’s Next for you, me, & Everyday Church. (4862 Broadway)

Teach Us To Pray: The Lord’s Prayer

This Sunday, we studied the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus’ response to his friends’ request that he teach them how to pray.

This week, spend some time integrating the Lord’s Prayer into your prayer life. Here’s the prayer from Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4, along with some prompts to guide your prayer time:

‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

Prayer Prompts:

  • “Our Father” implies we are a part of God’s family…consider what this means and thank Him.
  • “Hallowed” means greatly revered and respected…spend some time contemplating who God is and what he means to you.
  • Pray for God’s kingdom and will to come in your life, church and community.
  • Pray for provision for your needs and the needs of those around you.
  • Search your heart to confess any sins in your life and receive God’s forgiveness.
  • Think through the temptations you face in life and ask God to guide and protect you.

New Teaching Service: Teach Us To Pray

screen-shot-2016-08-18-at-4-25-08-pm

Prayer: A conversation with God.

It seems simple enough. However in reality we find it hard to slow down and quiet our scattered, distracted selves enough to find the time each day to connect with God in this powerful and life-changing way. But we are not alone. When Jesus’ disciples watched him spend time in prayer, they saw something they wanted for themselves. So they asked Jesus, “Teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1)

In our new teaching series, we will not only study what the Bible has to say about prayer, we will also teach skills to help each of us get better at speaking and listening to God in prayer. Along with focusing on how to pray, we will devote time to pray together as a church.

Family Reunion Picnic, Sunday Sept. 4th!

This Sunday, Sept. 4th, don’t miss out on our Family Reunion Labor Day Weekend Picnic! We’ll be meeting in the playground at our typical Sunday morning meeting space, 4862 Broadway (The Muscota School). There will be food, games and fun for all! Hope to see you there.

PS – If you are in an Everyday group, check with your group leader to find out what you can bring to share at the picnic. If you are not in an Everyday group, you’re invited to bring a side dish to share!

Our back-to-school gift

Do you remember how you felt starting a new school year with brand new school clothes?

Everyday Church is working together to provide uniforms for under-resourced kids who attend Baychester Middle School in the Bronx. One of our members, Liz Leebens is the one of the founding principals of this school. We would love to support the very important works she and her teachers do each day with these students. Our dream is to provide enough shirts and pants to cover the schools need for the next year. Each shirt costs around $10 and each pair of pants around $20. We would love to provide 50 shirts and 50 pairs of pants for Baychester.

For the next four weeks you can make a donation to help us either on-line on our website, www.everydaycc.com or at each of our Sunday morning gatherings.
