Pray for Us: An Update From Larry

Mingling after serviceIn 2013, Everyday Church launched it’s very own Global Outreach Team. It has functioned quietly the past year as the small team has prepared to guide and direct Everyday Church’s national and international missions efforts. Not a small responsibility!

Well, it’s 2014 and the team is ready to take the next step. A group of six Everyday Church folks head to the Dominican Republic on January 8th to explore partnership opportunities with several organizations. The team will be visiting several ministries that serve and care for children in the DR, as well as an organization that focuses on starting new churches.

The Global Outreach Team and the group headed to the DR need your prayers! Here are some specifics to pray for…
– the wisdom and discernment of the Global Outreach Team
– the group going to the DR: Kala, Kate, Holly, Iris, Chris and Larry
– the leader of the Global Outreach Team: Kala
– the relationships built with the ministries in the DR
– pray the team is led by the Holy Spirit as they consider Everyday Church’s possible involvement with each ministry
– pray for safety and smooth travel

Keep praying!

Pray For Us: An Update From Chris

God is doing something remarkable with Everyday Church, and it’s an answer to prayer. Our young faith-family is unusually diverse. We have people coming from all over the spiritual map– seekers, skeptics, young believers, mature believers.

We’re ethnically diverse. Some of us speak English as a first language, others Spanish. We have singles, newly-weds, and couples who’ve been married for decades. Some have earned advanced degrees; others are street smart. We come in all colors that humans come in. We are babies, toddlers, kids, teens, twenty-somethings, people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s… all in a church of now, perhaps 100 people!

“In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.” Colossians 3:11 (NLT)

Christ is all that matters!

Please pray:
* That this diversity is just the beginning for ECC.
* For our Spanish translators: Mi and Iris.
* For English speakers who are trying to learn Spanish (like me!)
* That God would teach us how to truly love one another in Christ.
* That God would use this diversity to convince our neighbors He is among us.

We can’t do this without you. Please pray,

Chris

Out With The Old, And…

Everyday Groups 1… in with Everyday Groups!

We’re shifting our Home Groups into 3rd gear this New Year. Thus far, our groups have been mostly about genuine spiritual friendship and growing in knowledge. But there’s a third purpose to them and we’re ready to for it! We aren’t backing off from developing real community and exploring the Bible, but we’re going to start rolling up our sleeves together.

We’re going to change things. Help people. Serve our neighbors. Because God works primarily through everyday people, we’re challenging our Home Groups each to adopt a mission or a ministry– to identify a group of people to reach out to, or a contribution to make in Jesus’ name. We want to be a church that is famous for justice and mercy.

Everyday Groups 2To signify this change, we’re renaming our Home Groups. So, we don’t have Home Groups anymore. They’re done. Now we have Everyday Groups. That’s gonna take a little getting used to. If you catch us saying something about “Home Groups,” you have our permission chime in, “Uh, don’t you mean Everyday Groups? What’s a Home Group?”

Everyday Groups currently serve the youth in our neighborhood, children and families, and various areas justice and mercy. And there are others beginning to form! There are rumors of a Prayer group, a Spanish group, and an Arts group taking shape.

Everyday Groups 3We feel like we’re on the front end of something incredible. God is on the move through everyday people. There is an Everyday Group— right now, or maybe even one that doesn’t yet exist!– that needs your unique talents and strengths. This New Year, decide to make the Most Important One the most important one to you.

We’re going to be posting all the latest so you can continue to find your best fit. But don’t wait for that! Get involved and help us make God’s dreams come true. If you aren’t a part of an Everyday Group, then Contact Us.

Buy Her Bag, Not Her Body

Human trafficking is real, but it doesn’t have to be.

Everyday Church is honored to welcome Nomi Network to our next Teaching Gathering. Millions of human beings– each precious to God– are bought and sold like objects. Nomi Network is doing something about it, and we can help.

We can do something about it.

Nomi provides women and girls who have been rescued from sex trafficking with the dignity of a respectable a profession: designing and creating fashionable bags. Everyday Church wants to support Nomi and help get these bags in as many hands as possible, so here’s what we’re doing: We’ll pick up half the cost, so you can purchase their products at 50% off (and Nomi will still get the full retail value!). This Christmas, consider purchasing gifts that aren’t just beautiful and well-made (they really are!), but are also very meaningful.

                When: December 9th, 11:00am

                Where: 4862 Broadway*

How’s It Work? It’s simple: buy a bag (or two, or three!), and we’ll pay for half of it. We believe that strongly in what Nomi is doing to help these women. You can use cash or a check to “Nomi Network.”

Come learn more about this excellent organization and meet some of the leaders. Spread the word and bring a friend!
