Operation Exodus: Reading Buddies

Reading BuddiesOperation Exodus is a community of caring educators and mentors who believe that small improvements can have a big impact in the life of a child growing up in generational poverty.

The Reading Buddies program is a way that you can help as a volunteer. Reading with and to a child is the most effective way for this level to be increased, and why Reading Buddies are vital to improving these kids’ education!

We ask Reading Buddies to commit to one hour, once a week for the school year. No teaching is required… think of it like sharing a bedtime story. Hours for the program are Monday-Friday 3-4:30 and 5:15-6:30.

If you or your Everyday Group is interested in volunteering, email readingbuddies@operationexodus.org. You can also sign up here.

An Everyday Original!

LC Front CoverPastor of Everyday Church, Chris Travis, has written a heart-warming book for children about Christmas and Easter and… donkeys?

That’s right, donkeys.

Discover delightful, unexpected connections between Christmas and Easter, vividly illustrated. There’s a surprise ending too, but shhh… Don’t spoil it!

Back to School Sunday: Sept 6

BackToSchool_titleInvesting in the next generation is one of the things we really care about. Educators have a very special place in our hearts.

Join us the last Sunday before NYC Public Schools begin for a panel discussion with some local educators about how God uses education to build young people up and grow his kingdom. We’ll take time to pray for educators, students, and parents (you know you need it!). We’ll give some gifts to any teachers who attend as a “thank you” for their important work– so invite your teacher friends along! And we’ll write encouraging notes for our own Everyday Kidz to brighten their first few days back and give a little courage to face a new grade or a new school. See you September 6 for Back to School Sunday.

Summer Book Club with Everyday Kidz

SummerBookClub_TitleSummer time.

Adventures, vacations, and… well, let’s be honest… not as much learning, now that school’s out. Kids can lose ground academically over the summer, but we want to help.

That’s why Everyday Kidz’ next teaching series is Summer Book Club. We’ll read some great books together, all focused on compassion. We’ll discover that compassion is much more than a feeling. Compassion takes action! It involves doing something to help. While we’re at it, we’ll help keep those reading skills sharp.
